Hair Design Studio of Downtown, LLC
The Sample House was built for Henry Taylor Sample, an early settler of Lafayette, in the late-1830s. The house was a relatively plain Federal/Greek Revival style gable-front house. It sat on the southwest corner of Third (originally Ohio) and Alabama Streets.
The Sample house was sold by Henry Taylor Sample’s son, Robert W. Sample, to Julia A. Broderick on September 9, 1895 and changed hands several times until 1903. Sometime in the mid-twentieth century the house was divided into apartments and demolition was threatened around 2000. The developers who had planned a mixed-use commercial/residential building for the property decided to preserve the house by moving it to the adjacent lot (108 S. Third) where a mid-1890s frame house had just been demolished. The Sample House was moved in November, 2002, and has been renovated for a mix of apartments and commercial use by the Sample House Hair Design Studio of Downtown, LLC. Today it is the oldest surviving building in Lafayette and houses our salon studio and all of the wonderful stylists on our team.
We have preserved the historical feel of our salon while providing a soothing atmosphere and calming ambiance. In contrast to the age of our building, Sample House Hair Design Studio of Downtown, LLC is steeped in the most current styles and innovative beauty products.
